Coconut Burfi Recipe | Mithai | Indian Sweets

A very simple coconut burfi recipe made from only a few ingredients: condensed milk, coconut, and cardamom powder. This is a really yummy and quick dessert to satisfy your sweet cravings after a good Indian meal. One of my favorite Indian Mithai.

Heat a pan and add tbsp of butter. Let it melt.
Add 14 oz can of condensed milk and 14 oz pack of sweet coconut flakes. Combine the ingredients in the pan. add cardamom powder and let everything cook for 5-6 mins.
Add dry fruit and then transfer on to a pan greased with butter/ghee. Spread evenly and cut in equal portions. Place in the fridge and let it set for about 2 hours.
Serve when completely set to your friends and family.

  15. how much cardamom powder did you add?

  16. If I leave out the coconut do I then have a basic recipe for Burfi (Barfi??).? Ot do I have to do things slightly different if I leave out the coconut completely? Lastly, can I substitute other flavours for the coconut (e.g. pineapple). In Trinidad and Tobago, where I live It is called Barfi and the final "dressing" sometimes used are the tiny colored beads or "sprinkles" also used for cake decorating. Thanks for posting this.

  17. If we're going to use fresh coconut, are we going to use young coconut or the older one? Thanks!

  20. in mauritus we simply mix the coconut powder and the condensed milk 🙂 and then we decorate it with cashew and so on !!! we dnt use the stove for that :p

  21. How much cardamon?

  22. I just made this while watching and it turned out great. I did not have cardamon so I substituted with cinnamon, nutmeg and I placed a piece of fresh ginger in the pan to get that extra flavor. I took the ginger out before placing the mixture in the bowl. Also toasted some of the left over coconut with nuts as a topping and pressed it into the mixture before cooling…I've gotta double the mix the next time its sooo good.
